Prof. Rajib Shaw, co-chair of UNISDR-Asia Science Technology Academia Advisory Group (UNISDR-ASTAAG) and a professor at Keio University, Japan. He worked closely with the local communities, NGOs, governments and international organization, including United Nations, especially in the Asian countries. He is currently the President of Asian University Network of Environment and Disaster Management [AUEDM].

Prof. Saini Yang is currently the Secretary of UNISDR-Asia Science Technology Academia Advisory Group (UNISDR-ASTAAG), the Director of the International Center for Collaborative Research on Disaster Risk Reduction (ICCR-DRR) and a professor of the Academy of Disaster Reduction and Emergency Management, Ministry of Civil Affairs, Ministry of Education, the State Key Laboratory of Earth Surface Processes and Resource Ecology, Beijing Normal University, China. She specializes in infrastructure risk analysis, emergency management and evacuation, multi-hazard spatial temporal analysis, community-based disaster risk reduction and post disaster recovery. She is the PI of more than 8 national and international research projects and published over 30 peer-reviewed papers in recent five years. Preciously she worked in Cleveland State University, the Unites States, as an assistant professor before join the Beijing Normal University in 2008.

Purpose of the session:
With a review of progress of S&T milestones and achievements for Disaster Risk Reduction in Asia last two years, the session will set the stage for the 2nd ASTCDRR. The session will have global (with link to the regional context), regional review, and will exemplify cases of national platform and S&T involvement for Disaster Risk Reduction in Asia.
